Rookies Tournament (3/16/22)
Type of Games Played
Straight 8 Ball (singles)/8 Ball (1/15 version singles).
Date and Time
Every Monday. The room is reserved from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. On the second week of each month, we play 8 Ball (1/15 version) singles to train for the next level of play, e.g., Upstarts, etc.
Player Level
Specifically designed for inexperienced players. Instructors will be visiting each table to coach players while you play pool in a competitive but relaxed environment. Returning players who need to brush up on techniques should go to the Mentoring Training Class on Tuesdays.
Sign-up Procedure
The sign-up sheet is in the binder located in the Kilaga Billiards Room on the fireplace mantle. The first twenty-four players listed on the signup sheet must be in attendance and have a player number by 9:50 AM. If vacancies occur at that point, the standby players are given priority in the order signed up on the signup sheet. Each player gets a player number upon signup on the tournament day. Play begins at 10:00 AM.
Tournament Rules
The Tournament follows the American Pool Players Association (APA) Rules. Exception: An illegal break, with or without a scratch, the opponent shoots from the kitchen. The group leader or assigned number caller, calls the number for the players at each table. The tournament leader will announce and explain whether using the APA or the Professional Player rules prior to the start of the tournament. Play is stopped when the 17-minute clock expires. When time is called, and the shooter is in the shooting position at the table, the shooter is allowed to take one shot at that point.
When time is called and there are balls still on the table, the player/team with the fewest number of balls wins. If the same number of balls left on the table for both players/teams, then the players lag for the win.
The winners of each game should mark the results on the score sheet and the losers will rack the balls for the next round. Everyone needs to check the score sheet at times to make sure it is accurate.
The losers of the last game on each table should return the balls to the Activity Desk.
Recognition
At the end of the Tournament, the Tournament Leader calculates the tournament winners (1st and 2nd place). A photo will be taken of the winners, with full names, and emailed to the tournament participants, the elected board of directors, and the webmaster.
