Mentoring

The Billiards Group gives to the community by conducting instructional classes, mentoring classes. For most of us, it has been a few years since we played. The “rules” we used have changed. We give you the opportunity to learn the rules and play accordingly.

Players learn how to rack the balls … how to lag to select who breaks … what constitutes a legal break … what causes a ball-in-hand … and calling the pocket to win the game.

Come learn, or re-learn, the game. Share the joy of making a great shot with friends.

Have some fun. See you there.

Mentoring Training Program (3/16/22)

The Mentoring Training Program provides training to new, intermediate, and advanced players conducted each Tuesday at the Kilaga Springs Lodge. Sign in is on the card table in the hallway from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM. Session one play starts promptly at 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM. The second session starts at 10:30 AM-11:30 AM. During the 15-minute break the second session sign-up sheet will be available for newly arrived players. After sign up is complete, first session players may sign up if space is available. A maximum of thirty students for each session. During sign in, the Mentoring Director or the backup(s) will gauge an individual’s skill level by asking about the individual’s experience and status as a player. The student will then be assigned to the appropriate instructor for beginning, intermediate, or advanced training. Student load may cause a realignment of the assigned tables.

Training for advanced players will be conducted at Tables 1 and 6. Emphasis will be on game strategy, position play, advanced shooting, e.g., breaking to win, bank, rail, combination shots, use of English. The advanced instructors will select their students.

Training for intermediate players will be conducted at Tables 2 and 5. Basics of advanced play. Intermediate instruction will teach according to the needs and skills of the students.

Training for beginning students will be conducted at Tables 3 and 4. The basics are taught: how to hold a cue stick, explain an object ball/cue ball, aiming, move away from the table when not shooting, replace the bridge under the rail with neither end hanging down, keep chatter to a minimum and do not offer advice to other players unless asked to do so by another student and keep this to a minimum.

The Director should, or will appoint someone to, send out an email reminder no later than Sunday.

Instructors should be familiar with the LHBG Individual Tournament Rules, APA Rules, Rules (2020 Rules Booklet.indd) (poolplayers.com), and the Welcome Information Package for New Members. All documents are available in the binders at both Lodges and on the LHBG website https://lhbilliards.com The Mentoring Training Program Director may conduct, or direct, the training of instructors(s) on an as needed basis to insure consistency of instruction.

At the end of the second training session, players are to return the billiard balls to the front desk.
